His wife Janet (Tullis) Barclay soon followed. The Barclays purchased this farm in 1819 from a Mrs Mathews. The property was originally an United Empire Loyalist grant.
The kitty corner property, Lots 16, 17 and 18, Concession 7 was a land grant to one, Elmsley, who sold the south part lots to each of the Barclay sons: George, William and David. Young George was involved in the Rebellion of 1837, captured and spent time in Toronto Jail. A £900 mortgage was placed on his father's farm, presumably to bail him out of jail. The mortgage was discharged the following year. After his release, George sold his property to John Miller in 1839, which became Thistle Ha' farm. He then moved to Lobo in Middlesex County, west of London, ON.
The Barclay and Miller families later became related by marriage.
